First Aid/CPR/AED

This in-person course prepares youth ages 11-16 to safely and confidently care for children and infants. It includes hands-on activities, videos, and discussions to develop essential, real-life readiness babysitting skills. The course covers feeding, diapering, picking up and holding children, safety, and emergency response. Participants receive a 10-year Babysitter’s Training certificate and 2 year Pediatric first aid and CPR certificate upon completion.  

Babysitters Training

Participants will earn their First Aid/CPR/AED certification from the American Red Cross, valid for 2 years as well as a keychain breathing barrier
The American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED r.21 program is designed to help participants recognize and respond appropriately to cardiac, breathing and first aid emergencies. The courses in this program teach participants the knowledge and skills needed to give immediate care to an injured or ill person when minutes
matter, and to decide whether advanced medical care is needed. This course is designed for participants 15 years and up.

Some of the skills students will learn include:

  • Safety Skills: Students learn how to prevent unsafe situations and what to do when faced with dangers such as power failures or weather emergencies.
  • Child Care Skills: Students learn tips to manage behavior that will help them stay in control of themselves and the children in their care. Students also learn the ages and stages of child development, as well as practice diapering.
  • First Aid & Rescue Skills: Learning skills such as choking rescue and CPR is often students’ favorite part of the class. Students also learn a system to help them assess and respond to injuries and illnesses. 
  • Life & Business Skills: The ability to screen jobs, discuss fees, and greet employers will set students up for success now and in the future. Students practice these skills through various role play.

Lifeguarding Course with Deep Water:

This is a two-portion lifeguard course. The first portion is all online as a Blended Learning Lifeguard Course through the American Red Cross. The second portion of this course is In-Person, which will cover Water Skills, CPR, and First-Aid.

You must complete the Online Blended Learning portion of this course prior to attending the second In-Person portion of the course. Once the registration fee is paid, you will receive the Online Blended Learning Link and an Online Lifeguard Manual. The online portion is to be completed during your own time prior to attending the in-person lifeguard training.

Upon successful completion of this course, you will receive a Lifeguarding with Deep Water and CPR for the professional rescuer certifications valid for 2 years.

Prerequisites: 

All students must be at least 15 years old by the last day of class

Complete a swim-tread-swim sequence without stopping to rest:

▪ Jump into the water and totally submerge, resurface, then swim 150 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both. (Swimming on the back or side is not permitted. Swim goggles are allowed)

▪ Maintain position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes by treading water using only the legs

▪ Swim 50 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both

Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds:

Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. (The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed).

▪ Surface dive (feet-first or head-first) to a depth of 7 – 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object. February 2024

▪ Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point, holding the object at the surface with both hands and keeping the face out at or near the surface.

▪ Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.
